Sasuke 24 - Spoilerific Review - Part 21

SASUKE 24!!

PART TWENTYONE

(PART ONE) (PART TWO) (PART THREE) (PART FOUR) (PART FIVE) (PART SIX) (PART SEVEN) (PART EIGHT) (PART NINE) (PART TEN) (PART ELEVEN) (PART TWELVE) (PART THIRTEEN) (PART FOURTEEN) (PART FIFTEEN) (PART SIXTEEN) (PART SEVENTEEN) (PART EIGHTEEN) (PART NINETEEN) (PART TWENTY)

Sasuke spoilerific review ;) Warning.. incoming blog of Sasuke 24.. if you don’t want to know.. you have been warned :D For a preview of this event.. Please see SASUKE NAVI FALL 2010 (1 hour review of Sasuke 24 with fluff pieces of all the major players in the upcoming Sasuke!) and the SASUKE PREVIEW SHOW that aired an hour before the official broadcast. Bare with me.. this show was 5 1/2 hour long (not including the specials..).. Aww man the tragedy in Haiti really threw me for a loop.. spent a good portion of the mornings watching TV and reading online. Oh.. and as Ube says: If you are from the G4 Forums, DON'T POST THIS THERE. They expect everyone to stick their head in the sand and pretend it doesn't exist..

UBE'S Sorta-LIVE-BLOG FOR SASUKE 24 IS HERE!

(Massive thanks to Ube for his help on the names in English and Japanese of all the competitors!!)

Up next to be harnessed.. wait.. didn't they already.. oh nvm :p This is Yuuji Urushihara 漆原裕治

That's right.. ignore that they are messing with your nether regions...

I think that's him holding the sign.. for all we know it's the guy on the right with the big huge kanji on his face.. LOL!!

I also think that's him on the bottom with the glasses holding up his fist

Old footage of his autographs
Trampolinist Shunsuke Nagasaki 長崎 峻侑 on the top, Mr. Sasuke Katsumi Yamada 山田 勝己on the left and Fisherman Makoto Nagano 長野 誠 on the right (All signatures obtained in person btw)

The famous "Yamada diss" from an episode from Sasuke Maniac back in June, 2008 where they covered the BUG IN MIKI festival

one of his failures in Sasuke Trials

and another failure in Sasuke Trials

Muscle Park pwning - something he does often

This was his first final in Sasuke 22 back in March, 2009

Ever since then he's been training rope climbing

Yuuji Urushihara 漆原裕治 totally representin'

Yuuji's cheering section. Offhand I can name the 1st 3 from the left in order- Fellow UNCLI Members (since Yuuji is #3):
Ryo Matachi 又地 諒 (#2 Cliffer), Tsuyoshi Matsuda 松田 剛 (#1 Cliffer) and stage 2 competitor and fellow STQ'er Tomohiro Kawaguchi 川口 朋広 - The other 3 are also former STQ'ers but I can't place their names atm

We know the All-Stars Bunpei Shiratori 白鳥文平, Kazuhiko Akiyama 秋山 和彦, Shingo Yamamoto 山本進悟, Makoto Nagano 長野誠 and Toshihiro Takeda 竹田敏浩 (Still reeling from his Stage 3 loss)

Heh.. check out Nagano doing a quick glance at Takeda

Yuuji Urushihara 漆原裕治 getting set to revenge his Stage 4 loss from Sasuke 22!

Nervous as all hell...

He's been doing pretty well trying to concentrate and block everything for the past.. I don't know.. maybe hour?

Last second shouts of encouragement from Ryo, Matsuda and even Nagasawa

Yuuji Urushihara 漆原裕治

Timer is up..

And off he goes!

Perfectly on time.. he's really good on the ladder.. now to see if his training on the rope helped

But first.. TBS is birthing onions...

Through the magic of television we have gone back in time

Swinging wildly but he's moving at an even pace

Wow the training did work because he's flying up this rope!!

Klaxon blaring but you can see him up at the top!!

He has HERDS of time!

Even has time to find the button!

And turn his body all the way around

Yuuji Urushihara 漆原裕治 - 完全制覇 - KANZENSEIHA!!!!

Forgive me for being complacent only because TBS spoiled it for us and I was still reeling from Takeda's emotional Stage 3 but I'm beyond ecstatic that Yuuji won!!

This poor guy went through hell to get here but so many thought he came out of nowhere when that couldn't be further from the truth!

He was the overnight sensation .. years in the making! LOL

完全制覇 - KANZENSEIHA!!!!

Complete Domination for only the 3rd time in the 13 year history of Sasuke!!!!

Still mentally weary it's starting to set in he's CHAMPION!

Cheering to his buddies through the hole on the floor

Yet another reason why I love the STQ'ers.. they know how to have a friggin block party when someone of their own wins

LOL Signs are thrown in the air like a graduation!

LOL I expect a mosh pit

Following these guys for almost 2 years now .. it's ridiculously awesome to see someone from Trials beat this course!

Their hard work and perseverance finally FINALLY paid off!

Lee and Koji looking on

As Koji almost decks Lee.. LOL!!

Okuyama smiles again!

All-Star reaction as Nagano is having kittens watching

Bunpei, Shingo and Nagano yelling support as Akiyama can't see jack and Takeda wants to hide in a hole somewhere

Nagano getting excited since he knows he's got enough time to win

Shingo already is celebrating as he knows he's got it

Now it's almost certain at this point as Bunpei starts to yell while Nagano and Shingo are already clapping

Now it's official and Takeda finally looks for Nagano's reaction

And comes out of his funk to congratulate the new Champion. Cool both champions are here to witness this! :)

Nagano squinting again to see how much time he had left on the clock

Nagano amazed at the fact Yuuji had more than 3 seconds left on the clock

DUDE!!!!!! That's friggin' amazing!!!!

Yuuji yelling with his friends from up at the tower

This is awesome since that's the first thing he did

Yuuji terrorizing dogs everywhere!!! (LOL)

STQ'ers still celebrating

UNCLI ROCKS HARD CORE YA'll! (#2 and #1 celebrate) and TBS can't do jack but to show them and acknowledge their existence.. LMFAO

Yuuji finally turns around to see how much time he had left!!

Fatigue starting to set in as the weight of the accomplishment starts to sink in

Nagano yelling something up the tower

Kenji getting overwhelmed by the situation as he's about ready to go up himself!!!!

Finally getting up and looking down from the ledge.. a place no one can pay me to be.. LOL

Everyone! Raise your hand if you're SURE!

Yuuji finally erased the doubts that 40 seconds was too short of a time!!

He is by far the best ladder climber of them all. Also explains how fast he was going in 22 to even be as close as he was with such a poor rope climb!

A moment I'm sure will be repeated in the future many times!

Congratulations Yuuji Urushihara 漆原裕治

Yuuji talking directly to his friends from the top of the tower.

Sorry I have no translation

Whatever it is.. it's making Koji hold back his tears

As some are not as successful in trying

Transition at the rope climb

Awwwww this is cool :) He made Takeda smile as Yuuji pays tribute to those who came before him. He starts with Toshihiro Takeda 竹田敏浩 - the only man to get to the 3rd stage a record 13 times but alas no finals

Next is the 2nd Champion and 5 time finalist - Makoto Nagano 長野誠 (LOL He's totally cheesing)

Next is 2-time Finalist and the only man to be in EVERY tournament - Shingo Yamamoto 山本進悟

Next is one-time finalist and owner of Shiratori Shrine (a place Yuuji has been invited and practiced on) - Bunpei Shiratori 白鳥文平

And last but not least is Sasuke's very first Champion - Kazuhiko Akiyama 秋山 和彦
(Btw.. I think Yamada left during the 2nd stage but not entirely sure since TBS could be hiding his presence .. though I doubt it)

Yuuji motions to Takeda.. awwww.. I love this guy.

Oh.. and TBS reminding us.. there are TWO more people to go! We see the Okuyama and Takahashi family being one group now

Yoshiyuki Okuyama 奥山義行 is last to go

Kenji Takahashi 高橋 賢次 is up next as he spends time getting organized

Takahashi family. Seems it's Tomu (son), Possibly Ain (daughter) and Yuri (wife)

Born in 1976 here's Kenji posing with his mother

Seems Kenji was heavily in sports and ran in school with no shoes!!!

Kenji's been in the 3rd stage a few times (this was Sasuke 5 held in 2001 back when he had hair!) and had been defeated by the Cliffhanger

Sasuke 18 the Shin-Cliffhanger also took him out

Finally defeating his nemesis the Cliffhangers in Sasuke 23 he was just short of the final when he fell backwards right at the mat

FINALLY making the final for the first time after almost 10 years of this tournament!

Fluff piece showing his family at the park watching him train

His son joins him!

Kenji Takahashi 高橋 賢次 ready for his shot at his very first final

Taking a huge deep breath

Last minute fist pump to his supporters

He's now set

Not bad.. he's about pace with Yuuji is not a hair behind

Hmm he seems to be slowing down..

Yes yes.. whatever..

He seems to be going .. nowhere fast.. wtf is going on?

OMG the rope!!!! The safety rope is tangled!

with the Klaxon blaring.. the more the TBS guy tries to untangle it Kenji keeps grabbing it!

Finally Kenji stops and tries to untangle it himself

Aww this is disappointing.. now he's noticing how far he tangled it!

And it's over :(

Kenji Takahashi 高橋 賢次 - Death by Time up on the G-Rope

Everyone seems to be utterly stunned

He's lowered down as well

Okuyama is up next now

Replaying what went wrong

He literally threaded the safety rope around the G-Rope

Would explain why he almost went nowhere since he was grabbing 2 ROPES!

Aww man this was so painful to watch and yes a bit of a letdown after the Yuuji win but still heart wrenching to see it end this way

Nagano and Takeda echoing my sentiments exactly..

Kenji Takahashi 高橋 賢次 expressing his disappointment (and no I have no idea what he's saying)

Yoshiyuki Okuyama 奥山義行 is last to go

Born in 1970 and traditional upbringing it seems

A world class sprinter

Gnarly! A motorcycle racer?

A tender moment with his children - Takaya and Lilia

Okie dokie! Last man standing is also the oldest Sasuke Finalist at age 39

Okuyama family standing diligently

Yoshiyuki Okuyama 奥山義行 is our final competitor today!

Taking a deep breath

Yoshiyuki Okuyama 奥山義行

K he's finally set

Oh oh.. moving.. very slowly

.. KIRIN! I'm shocked I haven't seen more of these commercials today!! It's usually a punchline LOL

Ick.. much slower pace and I don't know anything about his rope climbing skills..

Aww.. nothing really impressive about the rope climb

Running out of time and he's still pretty far out

Aww it's over

Yoshiyuki Okuyama 奥山義行 - Death by Time up on G-Rope

Appreciation by his family for making the final though!

Kenji disappointed as well (take a drink.. Descente Logo)

Yuuji as well

Okuyama visibly disappointed

Yoshiyuki Okuyama 奥山義行 interview

Wow credits already? I guess they kinda fast forwarded Yuuji's celebration in the middle of the final

LOL something was funny.. his wife is openly cackling!

Speaking of openly cackling.. not a clue what is setting Shingo and Nagano into giggles

GOD I hope Bunpei is back to compete. Hope your health improves Bunpei!!!

That's it.. Shingo is a friggin' lizard.. wtf is up with that loose tongue of his???

Okay.. TBS finally showing Yuuji's win while throwing all the sponsors of the show

Oh cool they showed more. Yuuji being mauled by his friends

THROW HIM IN THE WATER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bastards.. they didn't chuck him in the friggid waters.. thus making Levi's.. okay okay I'll be good :D

FUGA!!!!!!! FUGA!!!!!! wtf is a fuga anyway? Outside of a luxury vehicle? Oh well :p

WHOOT! SPRING SASUKE!

Finally.. no more "zomg is this the final show "bullcrap for 6 months.. LOL They are confirming Sasuke 25!! SPRING TOTAL RENEWAL!!!! Granted.. it's the same icon they used for Sasuke 17's ending where they had the 3 rope thing.. I wonder if they got it technically working now? That would be awesome! Personally I'd like to see a Viking Final :p I loved that course!

Anyway. really really really want to thank a few people. Lost in Ube for oh geez.. the list is so long. Outside of my inspiration for even blogging in the first place back when I found Sasuke and found his blogs back in 2007 he's been a great online friend whom I can watch Sasuke and use candor and humor when watching without people hawking my every word :p And then of course his Live blog which I abuse constantly when creating my own. His time-consuming diligence in trying to update the wiki with scnoi by using his own sources and painstakingly going through each person to get the right kanji. I honestly believe a lot of people really don't realize how hard it is to do these things (especially his live blog) and how time consuming it is to find all the names and kanji spellings, etc. M9 doesn't make it easy for us to find it.. VxJasonxV for the Sasuke Navi and Sasuke 24 (and the other specials even if they were repeats) feed he provided from his paid subscription of WIST. Without that I don't think half the community would have even SEEN the tournament! Sucks he had to work through most of Sasuke though :( Scnoi from the Sasuke Maniac Boards for doing a great job in herding cats! Between looking for information, creating the updated wiki, and helping keeping everyone provided with their Sasuke wants and needs.. it's been nice to see the community band together and watch and share our Sasuke passion. Thanks for chaki, Ube, DavidK and awee for their help with Japanese translations and general knowledge for us folks that just don't know Japanese! It's far more helpful to get the jokes, comments and whatnot when we can understand what is going on! Thanks to our friends in Taiwan - specifically from the wretch board who have been helping us in getting things like the HQ live viewing and even download! It's great to see cross country participation in watching this show! Thanks to the community for being patient when I got the blogs up and for READING them! Without anyone to share it with.. this would be kinda boring. I'm happy people find enjoyment in them as much as I enjoy creating them. I'm ecstatic more people have used my blog as an introduction to such a wonderful show and it makes it even more worthwhile when I know my fangirling is actually to good use! I'm excited to see our small group grow to literally thousands around the world banding together to watch this show through tiny computer screens that often crash.

Great job! Now get some sleep.

BTW, what does UNCLI and CLIFFY stand for? I don't know if I've heard them defined.

Arsenette said...

Thehheheh I'm awake now :p Might watch TV and decompress for a day or so.. then back to Sportsman.

On UNCLI I put a link on the name. The wiki has a description of what it is and who they are. Much easier that way :)

Whoops this was the ONLY page I didn't do that.. ROFL

Great last blog to end the tome. Gotta love all the growing up shots like Kenji running without shoes and all the unidentified Yuji photos!! LOL

BTW, Okuyama's son is TAKAYA, not Takuya, my mistake...

So true about Yuji not being a newcomer at all. I remember your loyalty since that moment when Yamada dissed him.

Just read Ryo's blog and the STQers are already training together despite not knowing what the course will be like. Nice that they enjoy training together though it's sad most won't even make it to the main event.

I do object to Yuji always being referred to as the leader of the new stars. He may be the brightest star but Matsuda, Cliffer #1, deserves the credit for organizing them together, building his own set and inviting people over.

Congrats to Yuuji! Hard workers always get something back in my opinion, no matter how long they have to wait.
The whole blog was perfect, as always. Since my relatives were at my home during the second part of the broadcast I couldn't pay much attention, and missed loads of things; so the blog really helped!
Thanks, Elsie, for all your hard work. I still can't believe how fast you've been. Great job!
And thanks to those who streamed Sasuke 24 and to those who watched it , thanks to all the community in general: sharing the emotions Sasuke gives us makes every event unique. It gives us a bunch of memories nothing else could give.

I finally got myself fully caught up on both Sasuke and this blog! I just wanted to thank you for this blog, it really helps illuminate a lot of the things that leave me dazed and confused when I watch in Japanese. Also, I just have to say that, although I wholeheartedly disagree with the announcer claiming the All Stars are done for, I do think that the STQ'ers, including UNCLI, are showing that what they have done is being carried on by more and more competitors. Their dedication and love for the course, hard work, and the way they all support each other, and share in each others victories and losses is inspiring, and I think an amazing show of sportsmanship, and I'm glad to see these traditions being carried on beyond the All Star group.

Oh I agree Catriana :) This is why I loved the last couple Sasuke's where you had totally different people stepping up and doing well in addition to the All-Stars. There's a lot of hope for future Sasuke competitors and am excited to see how they all do in 25!
